Sod Turning Sunday

This morning at church we turned over the first sod on our building site. After what seems like forever, finally we are about to begin our building project. The area is fenced, the pegs are in the ground and we're all set to begin. When finished, we will have a new car park....with bitumen!!! We'll have a new Sanctuary, a counselling centre and I think a little chapel that people can visit throughout the week. It has been a long time in the works with all the planning permits and dealing with Council but we're on our way!

The irony was not lost in me then, when I opened 'Our Daily Bread' and the title for today was 'End of Construction'!!!!!! The thing is, whilst building projects commence and end, our lives are always under construction. This morning the kids at church demonstrated to us how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. Sometimes the changes are obvious to all. Sometimes the changes require a lot of time and effort on our part, as well as the help of the Holy Spirit. However, no matter what those changes look like, and how they come about in our lives, we remain under construction until this life we have is no longer.

Now unto Him, who is able to keep
Able to keep you from falling
And present you faultless
Before the presence of His Glory
With exceeding Joy
To the only wise God, our Saviour
Be Glory and Majesty
Dominion and Power both now and forever
Amen.

Your church's plans sound like your church is really growing. That's great!

But what on earth is bitumen?

Ahhhh....the black stuff on a sealed road. Bitumen, asphalt, tarmac (if you're in aviation, like my Dad)....it's all the same.

Does one of those make sense to you?!

The reason why a sealed carpark is so exciting is that we've only ever had gravel and dust.

Yes, asphalt makes perfect sense to me. Thank goodness!

How nice to be rid of the gravel and dust--you won't have to clean your shoes every time you get home from church!

Oh whew. I'm glad we found the right word ;)

I tend not to worry too much about dirty shoes after church. Between the dirt/gravel at school and a gravel driveway it seems to be inevitable.
