Wild Experience or Quiet Whisper?

Picture from art.com

"The Lord said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord for the Lord is about to pass by.
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the care. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"."
1 Kings 19:11-14

I came upon this passage in my daily devotions a few weeks back. It spoke deeply to my heart. Perhaps because I'm a 'gentle whisper' kind of person. When I seek God, that's what I yearn to hear. His gentle whisper brushing over my soul, surrounding me completely and speaking to my innermost being.

It concerns me when people are more interested in the 'signs and wonders' of faith, and appear to seek them, over seeking the 'gentle whisper'. That gentle whisper has far more depth than some people seem to imagine.

Me, too. Not that big signs are great, but I tend to be leery of them for some reason.

There's a fine balance, isn't there, between being open to any way that God chooses to move...and being skeptical of what looks like 'showmanship'.

Thank you for this Tracy...I got this same scripture yesterday during my quiet time!

Sometimes we can get so busy that our minds are too full to hear the still, small voice of the Lord. This was a great reminder to me to make sure I put the Lord first every day and not have so much going on in my brain that I didn't hear Him.

Have a Blessed day,
Love, Tina :)

Hi Tracy,

I wanted to respond to the comment that you left on my blog. I wanted to make it clear that the excerpt that I quoted wasn't about homeschooling versus having your children in school. It was about parents giving up on their responsibilities BECAUSE children spend so much time away from home. So many parents are too busy going their own way to even know what their children are doing in public school. Or Christian school, or whatever. There was a much longer article that that excerpt was from, that expounded more fully. If you took it out of context, I hope that you weren't offended.

Not at all Tracy. It takes an awful lot more than that to offend me!!!!

I guess I see a LOT of blogs that are saying the ONLY way for Christian parents to go is to homeschool. I really think you can have the best of both worlds.
