The Mid Point

It is now precisely half way through third term. Grandparents day..morning really..went beautifully. Most kids had someone special come and visit them. I even managed a moment to duck out and say hello to my parents. I wouldn't have seen them otherwise! Now to prepare for Open Day LOL. The excitement will continue for a little bit yet.

I had reason to ask my boss if I'm supposed to attend staff meetings....or not. Ahh...hmmm...yeah, I am. Good to know that! So, from next week I'll join the ranks of them who get to stay late. I'll also have to organise for my children to have permission to use a space at school. Somewhere like the library, where they can watch a DVD and do some homework or whatever.

I've been pondering issues of home organisation over the last few days. Particularly when I realised this morning, that the dishes weren't done last night and the pile grows too quickly, especially when we're all dashing in and out of an evening. I wonder how one is really able to fly through the day, getting everything accomplished that requires attention. I rise earlier than everyone else and I try to keep things simple. I am even happy to have a less than perfect house and let some of those things go, rather than expecting more than I'm capable of.

Now I just wish I had time for all the things I would still love to have time for. My books and my stitching both compete for my time, amongst my study and housework! I wonder whether other busy Mum's have come across the perfect solution to my wondering. Or is it all truly impossible?

I am so sorry to hear about the staff meetings. Having been to many such meetings over the years, it is my fondest hope to never have to attend one again. Even when led by the wisest of leaders, there's always someone you want to poke in the nose with your pencil to get them to stop yabbering on ...

Good for you for choosing sanity over perfection re: your house. Your kids won't remember a few dirty dishes in the sink. They will remember "The Year Mom Went Absolutely Bonkers."

I already know the person/people that I'd want to poke in the nose. These things happen in our 10 minute staff devotion time! The flip side of it all is that I'll actually have some frame of reference to lean on when I hear "you know how we talked about...." for the two weeks between meetings!

We've already had the "You never have time for me"....on the night when I had actually spent quite a considerable amount of time with that particular child. I've decided you just can't win.

Having never had local grandparents, I have always hated grandparents' days. It seems that the kids with doting grandparents always have someone there (but they see their grandparents regularly anyway), and the kids who have no one have it rubbed in even more than usual. I have lost count of the number of times I have had to go along and be the special person for my poor children.

We call in Grandparents Day but the invitation also includes 'special friends'. So parents, a close friend or another relative often make appearances for families like yours.

I'm not sure what I'd have done if my parents hadn't come down. We might've been able to adopt a grandparent from some family friends but it would've been a bit tricky.
