Cats in the Cradle...er...Cage

This was the scene in my backyard yesterday. Beyond My Picket Fence yesterday morning I had five energetic children playing in the sunshine (yay!!!). They were having so much fun that this black cat decided to come and join them. We tried to run it off, to no avail. I tried to have the kids ignore it...to no avail. Somewhere along the line the kids found this cage about a week ago, which I suspect is for catching possums. I had thought "great, when we have a possum problem we'll be set to go". In the end I had Mr Busy pick up the cat, who insisted on playing near him, and put it in the cage. Once it was caught I phoned our Shire and they had a Park Ranger come and collect it a couple of hours later.

That silly cat was all too happy to come and play at someone else's house uninvited, but for some reason really objected to being disciplined for its rudeness! What I am really hoping is that if it does belong to someone they will get a wrap over the knuckles from the Shire for having a cat roaming about outside. They're supposed to be in a cat run outside, or inside the house. Not roaming free.

Yes, you're right. I am not a great cat lover. I also have a daughter who is allergic to them. Poor cat hit the double whammy by coming to our place.

I am a cat lover, definitely, but I have to agree that they should be in the house or in a cat run. We do have a cat, and it will probably be our last as it drives my allergies through the roof, but she is inside and does not get to go out! Hope you kept the possum trap, never know when you might need that! LOL! :0)

Oh yes we kept that. We live in the hills where possums abound!

Tracy, If you lived closer I would be asking "Can I please borrow the possum trap", We have been trying to live sharing our back yard with one little brush tail possum, but eating the tops off my newly planted strawberries is the last straw...

Have a good day,

Tracie xx

Can I borrow it please??! I have 2 cats that roam through my backyard - I know one belongs to our neighbour but no idea about the other one. When we had a cat she was always kept inside so it really annoys me..

It's funny how people are about cats--they're either little gods who rule the world or possum-trap fodder. I lean more toward the possum-trap fodder camp myself, and your post is a good argument for always having a spare trap handy. We have a bunny I'd like to see trapped and taken away. My husband has more sinister ideas ...

I'm with you gals, we do not have any pets because we choose to not have them not because we don't like animals. We just like the freedom to travel when we want without having to worry about the care and upkeep of a pet.

Since we don't have pets, I expect to be able to walk my property without stepping in dog or cat doo.

It really annoys me to have people who walk their pets but stop and let them do their business on my front yard or let them roam and they come on my property and do their business.

All this to say, that when it comes to pet owners, they should be respectful of those neighbors who don't have pets and keep their pets at home in the house or in a run and not let them roam about to cause problems for others. And when they walk their pets, they should carry some plastic bags to pick up after their animals and not leave it for people who don't have animals.

Sorry for the long comment but this is a sore spot with me.

I'm with you all LOL. Tracey the fact that you have them eating your strawberries would really tick me off too!

In Australia, the Council or Shire will give you a trap to catch possums, and probably cats too if you're having a problem so give them a call and see what they say. It might be with a small fee, but worth it I reckon. If pet owners aren't keeping their pets appropriately they obviously need to be reminded!

...lucky it didn't come near our place. It wouldn't have been so fortunate. Lisa x
